April 30th Monthly Breakfast Highlights: Shakila Stewart

·

Do you remember where you were last Thursday morning?

If you found yourself in a roomful of Christian business leaders at the Legacy resort and spa, enjoying an early breakfast, chances are – you were getting charged up!

More on that in a second.

Network Buzz

The sensation is almost physical when first entering the event space to check-in. One’s eyes can’t help but scan the scene and take in the buzz that courses throughout the networking zone.

Something is definitely in the air on these mornings.

The unofficial word is that this meetup was the most well attended Breakfast event the Chamber has hosted so far!

The networking portion of the event takes a little bit of time to transition into breakfast. But this smart group is efficient and knows how to seamlessly multitask.

Breakfast Boost

Meals, conversation, and fellowship tends to mesh organically among believers. Even more so when table mates are deeply immersed within the business culture.

Sparks can fly.

To bottle lightning is no easy feat. But Chamber CEO Eve Nasby deploys her gifting effortlessly in order to get things kicked off.

Mayor Rebecca Jones

Honoring God, country, and tradition as a group, is not at all debated at the San Diego Christian Chamber Breakfast event. As is customary, the program always starts with the pledge of allegiance and prayer.

San Marcos Mayor Rebecca Jones, who is currently running for the San Diego County Supervisor District 5 seat, did the honors to lead from the front. She followed up with a few updates, before closing with challenging words of encouragement.

Next came the recognition of Teule Kenya and The Well. Two nonprofit organizations that the Chamber wishes to lift up. This was a great segue to introduce Sarau Becerra, who was present to lead a special Chamber cohort following the morning’s breakfast event.

Our newest members also received a warm shout out at this time.

NonProfit of the Month: TEULE KENYA

Did you know that Teule Kenya was originally registered in 1996 as ‘Homeless Children International, HCI-Kenya‘? It started as a humble project to serve the street children of Nairobi.

Later, the organization realized the original name of “Homeless Children” bore a negative stigma, so the local children were asked to select a name for themselves. They came up with ‘teule’.

In Kiswahili, “teule” is the word for “chosen”.

The name “Teule” speaks to the potential and fruitfulness of each child. It encourages the children that come through the program to view themselves as “chosen” with a purpose, rather than rejected and alone.

Co-Founder John High was available to present a video that highlights the work that Teule Kenya does.

Shakila Stewart was not a bit shy about her intentions for the morning when she pushed aside the podium mic and opted for a handheld unit. She wasn’t planning to hide behind anything while sharing her heart.

Neither was anyone else, if she could help it.

Shakila Stewart speaking

Getting everyone in the house to stand for a powerful prayer, she declared the space to be safe and empowering. This she backed up by sharing her own amazing story.

But you would be sorely mistaken if you thought her experiences were just about Shakila. They were undoubtedly for Shakila’s audience.

In Closing

There’s not much to add here, to be honest.

At the end of the morning, you walked out the doors either challenged or recharged. I suspect many felt much of both.

The next breakfast is scheduled for May 28th. Tickets are already available, so reserve your spot early! Subscribe to the calendar or check the website often for the latest event listings.

If you are looking to network and connect with SD Christian Chamber members, you don’t have to wait until the 28th. Plan to attend our next Marketplace Fellowship on May 13th. Head over to the Calendar and RSVP to let us know you are coming.
